The Haines Syringe Pump Pouch is designed to enable patients to stay mobile while receiving an infusion.
Description
formerly known as the NIKI Pump
The Haines Syringe Pump Pouch is designed to enable patients to stay mobile while receiving an infusion. Used widely across Australia, ambulatory 'syringe pumps' are clever and costly little units. Small, portable and programmable, they deliver the contents of a 2 to 50ml syringe over a specified period of time (e.g. 24 hours). The pump is placed inside a ‘lockbox’ - reducing the risk of damage or intervention - then inside a pouch - allowing the unit to be carried or worn comfortably on the body.
Until now, the only available pouch was reusable, and over $200 per unit. As they are commonly used by outpatients, the majority of pouches are not returned post-use - resulting in a substantial cost to healthcare facilities - and the pouches that are returned can pose an infection control risk. Haines Syringe Pump Pouches alleviate this risk, at around one tenth of the cost of reusable pouches.
Benefits
A practical alternative to a cumbersome pump pole
Ideal for outpatients requiring pain management or other infusion treatments at home
Waist and shoulder straps plus thick padding for a comfortable, secure fit
Clear window for monitoring infusion progress
Single patient use item, avoiding the risk of cross-contamination between patients
A cost effective alternative to reusable syringe pump pouches
Applications
The pouch is commonly used in:
Hospitals, for pain management or palliative care (particularly end stage cancer)
Aged care
Home and community nursing
