Quanta-Lase treatment principle for pigmented dermatosis The Q-Switched Nd: YAG Laser Therapy system uses melanin as the chromophore to provide selective photothermolysis. Peak power and pulse width are both higher in Q-Switched Nd: YAG. Melanin has a short heated relaxation period in melanophore and cuticle produced cells. It could produce little, energy-absorbent granules (tattoo pigment and melanin) that exploded without harming surrounding normal tissues. The pigment granules that have been blasted will be expelled from the body via the circulatory system.

Selective photothermolysis will be useful for treating pigmented lesions and for removing tattoos and other dermal and epidermal lesions.
