Hygenica Hygenica Antimicrobial Disposable ...
Hygenica Disposable IPC Curtains are manufactured from non-woven polypropylene and treated with Fantex® antimicrobial, a broad-spectrum disinfecting agent that has rapid and potent efficacy against bacteria, viruses and fungi and remains active for the lifetime of the product.
Fantex® is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial that shows rapid and potent efficacy against bacteria, viruses and fungi. Fantex® has undergone rigorous independent testing to demonstrate its speed, breadth and longevity of action.
It is crucially important that an antimicrobial curtain kills microbes quickly to avoid cross-contamination. For this reason any bacteria or viruses deposited on the surface of the curtain fabric, must be subjected to the full force of the antimicrobial’s killing efficacy before another hand touches the same area and becomes contaminated with the pathogen. Our Hygenica Disposable IPC Curtains have been scientifically proven to kill 99.9% (log 3) of microbes in less than one minute.
Fantex® has also been tested against feline coronavirus, the laboratory strain of Coronavirus that is used to validate activity against this type of pathogen. It was tested to EN14476 Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of virucidal activity in the medical area, the European standard for this type of activity and passed with a greater than log 4 reduction in virus level in 5 minutes contact time.

About Fantex
Fantex® hospital curtains rapidly kill a broad spectrum of bacteria, viruses and molds to Log 3 (99.9%) efficacy within one minute. Fantex’s unique mode of action ensures that pathogenic microorganisms are killed quickly upon contact. This speed of kill greatly reduces the risk of pathogens being transferred to hands, preventing the cross-contamination that leads to the spread of HAIs.
Speed of Kill
It is crucially important that an antimicrobial curtain kills microbes quickly. This is so that any bacteria or viruses deposited on the curtain fabric by a contaminated hand are subjected to the full force of the antimicrobial’s killing efficacy before another hand touches the same area and becomes contaminated with the pathogen. Such cross-contamination at so-called ‘touch-points’ is a major concern in infection prevention.
Hygenica demonstrates the speed of its Fantex®-coated curtain fabric’s killing abilities using the international standard BS EN ISO 20743 – Determination of antibacterial activity of textile products. Testing is performed by MGS Laboratories, the UK’s pre-eminent accredited antimicrobial and disinfectant testing laboratory, used by leading pharmaceutical and FMCG corporations. Pathogens tested against include clinically relevant strains including antibiotic-resistant mutants.
Longevity of Action
Hygenica has done significant work to demonstrate that its curtain/blind fabric retains antimicrobial efficacy for the full lifetime of the product. It is not sufficient to simply test product that has been stored post-manufacture. Instead we test curtains and blinds that have been removed from hospitals at the end of their designated lifespan. We have also conducted laboratory environmental testing in which the fabric is exposed to UV, temperature cycling and humidity.
