SOME USES FOR BED WEDGES

 

• Back Support: When sitting up in bed, the Bed Wedge can be placed behind the person’s back. This provides good support for the lower back/posterior to lean against. A normal pillow can also be used for upper back support.
• Anti-Slide Wedge: When the person is sitting up in bed, place the Bed Wedge under the legs hard up against the groin. The Wedge will comfortably help the person to stay in position sitting up, and help prevent them sliding back down the bed. This is particularly useful as it can save the Carers having to constantly lift patients back into position.
• Anti-Roll Wedge: This may help people who need to sleep on their side but will roll onto their backs. Place the wedge against their back. This will not be uncomfortable, but it will prevent them rolling onto their back.
• Bed Cradle Wedge: For some people the weight or sensation of blankets on their legs is unpleasant. In this instance the Bed Wedge can be placed under the bedclothes at the Patient’s feet to act a cradle to take the weight of the blankets off the legs.

 

Pelican offers a wide range of Bed Wedges, available in various sizes and lengths, and with or without angled ends. Each foam Wedge has a waterproof material cover that can be wiped clean and placed in a pillowcase for Patient comfort. There is a wide flap along one edge which can be folded under. The advantage of this flap is to allow air to move slightly when someone is lying on it. This means that it doesn’t feel like lying on a balloon.

All of our Bed Wedges are available with Hook Tape under the base to attach to Pelican’s Sleep System Positioning Sheet. For extra padding or more thermoregulating, the Wedges can be used with a Vented Overlay Pad. This Pad goes under the patient and can make it easier to turn them to assist placing the Wedges.

There is also a Bed Wedge - Bariatric. To maintain a comfortable cushion for bariatric Patients, the foam on the sides against the skin is convoluted to provide the sensation of softness and allow for air circulation, while maintaining firm support.
